Hazel M. Rice, 89, of Gallipolis, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Four Winds Community, Jackson, Ohio.

She was born November 14, 1923, in Gallia County, daughter of the late David and Etta Morgan Altizer. Hazel married Cecil E. Rice, Jr., and he preceded her in death in 1988. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family. She worked various places in the community including Sylvania plant, Gallipolis State Institute, G.C. Murphy and private childcare.

Surviving are three children, Ellen M. (Leon) Saunders of Gallipolis, Randy (Robin) Rice of Vinton and Carla (Dan) Mink of Gallipolis; seven grandchildren, Kyle (Lara) Saunders of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Tarin Mink (Justin Bull) of Bellbrook, Ohio, Carrie (Ed) Burris of Bidwell, Justin Rice of Gallipolis, Riley (Jillian) Rice of Mercerville, Aubrie Rice of Vinton and Chloe Houck of Vinton; three great-grandsons, Parker and Ethan Burris and Bryant Rice; one great-grandchild expected in July; and one brother, David (Etta) Altizer of Rio Grande.

In addition to her parents and husband, Cecil E. Rice, Jr., she was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Sadie Williams, Vern E. Altizer, Orie R. Altizer, Virgil W. Altizer, Garnet Blazer and Edna Johnson.

Services will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Heath Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, January 12, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. and also Sunday, January 13, 2013, from 12:30 p.m. to the time of the service.
