Lonnie W. Thompson, 83, of Gallipolis, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2010, at his residence.

He was born July 6, 1927, in Vinton, Ohio, son of the late Von C. and Cecile Wallace Thompson. Lonnie was married to Jerry Williams Thompson and she preceded him in death on July 18, 1996. He then married Anne Burcham Thompson and she survives him. Lonnie was a retired Union Boilermaker with Local #667 Winfield, West Virginia. He was a 1947 graduate of Gallia Academy High School and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Lonnie was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #27, VFW Post 4464, Elks #107, Gallipolis Gun Club, and was a past president of GAHS Athletic Boosters.

Surviving are his wife, Anne Thompson of Gallipolis; two daughters, Lonna Jo (Dale) Wade of Gallipolis, Ohio and Theresa Wallick Thompson of Ocoee, Florida; a son, Larry (Sheree) Thompson of Cameron, West Virginia; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two step granddaughters; seven step great grandchildren; two step children, Tom Belville and Teri Marchi, both of Gallipolis; two sisters, Leah (Bob) Wion and Margaret Bess Wilson, both of Stuart, Florida; one brother, retired Judge Tommy (Lavon) Thompson of Columbus; several nieces and nephews.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Jerry Thompson, a son Timothy Thompson, a grandson Benjamin Thompson and a brother Joe Thompson.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, August 20, 2010, at the Grace United Methodist Church with Bob Powell officiating. Interment will be in Vinton Memorial Park. Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. There will be military rites at the graveside by volunteers of area veteran’s lodges.
