Seven will vie for festival’s Jr. Miss title

GALLIPOLIS — Seven young ladies will be in competition for the title of 2009 Junior Miss at the 44th annual Gallipolis River Recreation Festival.

The contest, sponsored by Peoples Bank, is Thursday at 7:15 p.m. on the festival’s Main Stage.

Contestants include Michaela Drummond, Elizabeth Thompson, Kaela Shaw, Kayla Pope, Olivia Rees, Darian Miller and Amy Ours.

About the contestants:

Michaela Drummond is the daughter of Mike and Danielle Drummond of Gallipolis. She is an eighth grader at Gallia Academy High School.

Among her hobbies and activities are 4-H, raising market hogs and angora rabbits, cheerleading, softball, choir, Relay For Life and swimming.

Elizabeth Thompson is the daughter of Mark and Kim Thompson of Gallipolis. She is an eighth grader at GAHS.

Her hobbies and activities include cheerleading, student council, honor roll, Blue Card rewarding program, Holzer Hospice, and playing flute and harp. She also volunteers to rescue animals, swimming and tumbling.

Kaela Shaw is the daughter of Russell and Karen Shaw of Bidwell. She is a seventh grader at River Valley Middle School.

Among her activities and hobbies are power tumbling, nature hikes, softball and the Quiz Bowl team.

Kayla Desarae Pope is the daughter of Phillip and Christina Pope of Gallipolis. She is an eighth grader at RVMS.

Her activities and hobbies include 4-H, Who’s Who Registry of Academic Excellence, honor roll and Student of the Month.

Olivia K. Rees is the daughter of Dean and Amee Rees of Rio Grande, and is a seventh grader at GAHS.

Activities and hobbies include 4-H, showing pigs, playing basketball and volleyball, partcipating on the swim team and taking art classes.

Darian Paige Miller is the daughter of David and Melinda Miller of Gallipolis. She is a seventh grader at GAHS.

Her activities and hobbies include singing, acting, tumbling, guitar, 4-H and raising goats.

Amy Ours is the daughter of Max and Julie Ours of Gallipolis. She is an eighth grader at Ohio Valley Christian School.

Among her hobbies and activities are singing, reading, 4-H, Relay For Life, volleyball and playing trumpet.
