Carl ‘Stub’ Winters, 88, of Gallipolis, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.

Born Sept. 7, 1920, in Racine, he was the son of the late Earl and Blanche Norris Winters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Mildred Karr Winters; by five brothers, Hershel, Earl, Donald, Claude and Elmer Winters; and by one sister, Doris Wood.

Carl was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Wednesday morning men’s prayer group at Grace United Methodist Church.

He was also a member and Past Master of the Centerville Masonic Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple, Gallipolis Shrine Club, and the Gallipolis Chapter Eastern Star.

He is survived by four children, Fred (Becky) Winters of Gallipolis, Susan (Tom) White of Westerville, Sarah Winters of Somerset, Ohio, and Sally (Stewart) Morgan of Worthington; six grandchildren, Chuck (Lynnie) Winters, Chris (Becky) Winters, Brian Morgan, Scott Morgan, Julie (Marcus) Wuebker and Andrew (Christie) White; 10 great-grandchildren, Dustin Winters, Amber Winters, Carlie Winters, Jacob Winters, Jade Winters, Tyler Winters, Lilly Winters, Cooper Winters, Emma Wuebker and Brandon Wuebker; and one sister, Victoria Jones of Florida.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Rio Grande, with the Pastor Heath Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, 810 Second Ave., Gallipolis, on Friday, June 26, 2009, from 4 to 9 p.m.

Masonic services will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home by Centerville Masonic Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Gallipolis Shrine Club, 4190 Bulaville Pike, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Winters, Chris Winters, Brian Morgan, Scott Morgan, Marcus Wuebker and Andrew White.

Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Wuebker, Jacob Winters and Tyler Winters.
