Thanks to the generous contributions of community members, Bossard Memorial Library is currently exhibiting a remarkable display featuring the history-making baseball games of the Negro Leagues. Bossard Library Executive Director Debbie Saunders said that patron surveys over the past year have indicated a strong thirst for knowledge regarding African American historic ties to Gallia County, so Bossard’s Adult Services Associate Lynn Pauley got to work researching the subject matter and collecting old news clippings, while community leaders Bob Gordon and Sam Wilson lent a baseball jacket and two jerseys, along with baseball cards, books, and other historic memorabilia in honor of African American History Month. The library is also gearing up for Women’s History Month in March with plans to feature Debra Conner as Dr. Mary Walker at 2 p.m. March 17. Dr. Walker was the only female Civil War surgeon and the only woman to date to have been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
