GALLIPOLIS — Deputies with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office investigating an apparent accidental shooting over the weekend.

The Gallia County 9-1-1 call came in around 5:37 p.m. Saturday. The Gallia County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Gallipolis Fire Department and the Gallia County Emergency Medical Service, responded to the scene in the 1100 series of Ohio 7 South in Clay Twp.

The 19-year-old victim, Kurt Faulkner, was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. Witness statements indicate that the victim, who had been deer hunting, was attempting to ride an ATV with a loaded shotgun when the firearm fell and discharged striking him in the upper abdomen or chest area.

St. Mary’s Medical Center confirmed that Faulkner is in critical but stable condition when contacted by the Gallipolis Daily Tribune on Saturday. As of 5:30 p.m. Monday, Faulkner was listed in stable condition.
