In an effort to better serve southeastern Ohio, the senator's office has relocated to Nelsonville, said Marcy Ridgeway, spokeswoman for Voinovich.
The new office is located at P.O. Box 57, 78 W. Washington St., Nelsonville 45764.
“The senator loves Gallipolis,” Ridgeway said. “After much evaluation, he decided to move the office to be able to better serve all of southeastern Ohio.”
Area residents can continue to reach Voinovich's regional office by telephone at 441-6410, Ridgeway said.
The Gallipolis office, which was located at 417 Second Ave., opened in 2003. This past summer, the senator announced that the office would be moved to a more geographically central location, but did not specify a new site.
The choices were between Jackson and Nelsonville, Ridgeway said. Nelsonville was chosen because it is closer to the center of the southeast region of the state.
That will be a big help to Voinovich's staff, members of which have to travel the region for the senator, Ridgeway said.
One of the locations that Voinovich's representative will regularly visit is Gallipolis. Kara Dinguss is scheduled to be in town the second Thursday of each month.
The Gallia County Chamber of Commerce will provide Dinguss office space for those visits. Her hours will be published prior to each visit.
“We're very happy that the chamber of commerce is providing us space,” Ridgeway said.
Although the Gallipolis office is now closed, that does not mean the senator will not have a continued presence here, she said.
“Remember that, although the Gallipolis office is closed, the senator will keep a strong relationship with the area,” Ridgeway said. “The senator is not leaving Gallipolis.”
