GALLIPOLIS — Jake Bodimer of Gallipolis will be featured in the July/August issue of Our Ohio magazine, mailed out to more than 200,000 Ohioans. Bodimer will be recognized in the magazine’s community section for making significant contributions in his community, including coordinating Ag Awareness Day for fourth-grade students in Gallia County and serving as the Gallia County Farm Bureau president.
Bodimer said that Ag Awareness Day is usually set up in May of each year to help expose students to agriculture.
“Even though we live in a rural area, some people are pretty removed from the farms,” he said.
The day allows for students to learn about different aspects of farming, including cattle, hogs, sheep and honey. Laurel Valley Creamery usually makes an appearance to teach people about the dairy process as well.
Bodimer’s role at Farm Bureau also played a major role in his interview with Our Ohio. Every year Bodimer, as part of Farm Bureau, represents Gallia County in Washington, D.C., and hears from Gallia and Ohio congressional representatives while there. Bodimer has also assisted with showmanship clinics, hog-raising and promoting and supporting local FFA and 4-H programs.
“We are currently working with other counties in southern Ohio to assemble a Young Agricultural Professionals group in our area,” Bodimer said.
Bodimer said he was contacted by Our Ohio in late winter regarding his appearance in the magazine, and took photos for his spread around March or April of this year. He said he’s not used to receiving so much attention.
“It’s humbling because I don’t really seek much recognition. I’m not as comfortable with being in the spotlight,” he said. “But it is an honor.”
