City Park ignites in lights for Christmas

Wednesday was the day that officially kicked off the Christmas season in Gallia County — the annual Gallipolis in Lights Christmas display in Gallipolis City Park. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people turned out for the festivities Wednesday night as the light switch was flipped to turn a darkened park into a light-filled wonderland. Volunteers have been busy decorating City Park for the past two weeks, adding Christmas trees, light displays, hanging lighted balls from virtually all the trees in the park, and setting up Santa Claus’ house. All told, there are 1,000 lighted balls made of chicken wire. A few of the lighted balls are hanging from downtown businesses along Second Avenue. Free horse-drawn carriage rides, as well as tours of the nearby Our House Tavern and French Art Colony, were also offered to the public.
