Highlanders halt Point Pleasant

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — So much for gracious guests.

The Huntington High boys tennis team topped non-conference host Point Pleasant 6-0, on Thursday night in Mason County.

In the first singles matches of the evening, Huntington’s Chip Sweeney defeated PPHS sophomore Bryce Tayengco 8-0 and Joe Touma defeated PPHS junior Douglas Workman 8-0. In doubles action, Sweeney and Touma topped Tayengco and Workman by a 8-1 final.

In the third singles match, Brysen Price claimed a narrow 9-8 decision over PPHS freshman Dawson Wilson, after a 7-3 tie-breaking win. Dean Cornell defeated Point Pleasant junior Andrew McComas by an 8-0 count in the final singles match. The duo of Cornell and Price claimed an 8-4 win over Wilson and McComas in doubles play.

This was the final regular season match for Point Pleasant, which will start regional tournaments on Thursday.
