CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Gallia Academy High School baseball team played, and scored, early — and often — on Saturday morning.

In a non-league neutral-site tilt against the Piketon Redstreaks, the Blue Devils struck for six runs in the opening inning, en route to an 8-3 win inside a chilly VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe.

The win evened the Blue Devils’ record to 2-2.

Gallia Academy opened the first inning with six runs on five hits, then tacked on two more runs on three hits in the fourth for the sizable 8-0 lead.

The Redstreaks registered a single run in the top of the fifth, followed by two more in the seventh.

All eight Blue Devil runs were earned, as Gallia Academy amassed 10 hits with four walks.

The eight runs were more than enough for GAHS pitcher Josh Faro, who captured the win in working the opening six innings.

He allowed just the fifth-inning run on three hits and three walks with one strikeout.

Of his 91 pitches, 57 went for strikes.

Faro faced the minimum three Redstreaks in the second, and saw only four batters apiece in the first, fourth and fifth.

Anthony Sipple pitched the final inning for Gallia Academy, allowing two runs on two walks with only one run being earned.

Riley Harris pitched the opening two innings for Piketon and suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs on six hits and three walks.

Kole Carter collected three of the Blue Devils’ 10 hits, as Faro and Matt Bailey both had two.

Faro — in fact — drove in Carter and Bailey in the fourth with a two-run single, as his RBI-single in the opening inning upped the lead to 3-0.

Carter and Bailey scored a pair of runs apiece.

Eric Ward and Tanner Allen added two-run singles in the first, as Ryan Terry had a single in the third.

Sipple drew a pair of walks, while Josh Davis and John Stout both walked in the first.

Ward, Faro, Davis and Stout scored a run apiece.

Both teams honored the late Zach Farmer, a former Piketon standout and Ohio State University pitcher.

Farmer passed away late last summer after a lengthy battle with cancer.

The Blue Devils donned Farmer’s former Ohio State jersey number (11), while the Redstreaks did the same from his playing days at Piketon (34).

Gallia Academy’s Ohio Valley Conference contest at Ironton on Friday was suspended after seven innings, tied at 5-5.

Gallia Academy returned to the road, and returned to OVC action, on Monday at South Point.

The Blue and White — also playing in the final season of the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League — will venture to Warren tonight for an SEOAL bout.
