CENTENARY, Ohio — Can’t stop the skid.

The Gallia Academy boys basketball team suffered its sixth straight loss on Tuesday night, falling to Ohio Valley Conference guest Chesapeake by a 68-42 final tally, in Gallia County.

The Blue Devils (4-9, 3-6 OVC) fell victim to another slow start, as the Panthers (11-3, 6-2) pounced out to a 20-5 lead after eight minutes of play. CHS outscored the Blue and White 13-to-12 in the second canto, making the Panther lead 33-17 at halftime.

Gallia Academy cut the deficit to 14 points, 46-32, after outscoring Chesapeake 15-to-13 in the third period. However, the Panthers ended the game with a 22-10 run that secured the 68-42 victory.

GAHS senior Kole Carter led the hosts with 11 points, followed by sophomore Justin Peck with nine. Wes Jarrell posted six points, Devin Henry and Miles Cornwell each added five, while Drew VanSickle, Justin McClelland and Clay Smith each had two points in the setback. The Blue Devils shot 4-of-8 (50 percent) from the free throw line, while Cornwell sank the lone GAHS trifecta.

CHS senior Gage Rhoades — who recently surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for his career — led the Panthers with 21 points, followed by Jake Stevens with 15 and Brad Meadows with 14. Casey McComas scored four points for the Purple and White, Austin Hutchison added three, while Austin Browning, Ty Wilcoxen and Wesley Stephens rounded out the Chesapeake scoring with two points each. The Panthers connected on four three-pointers in the win, while shooting 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) from the free throw line.

The Purple and White also defeated Gallia Academy on December 11, by a 55-30 count in Lawrence County. The Blue Devils are scheduled to return to action on Friday when Southeastern Ohio Athletic League archrival Jackson visits Gallia County.
