Williams competes in women’s NAIA Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Freshman Lucy Williams ran to a 130th place finish for the University of Rio Grande in Saturday’s NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Championship at McAlpine Creek Park.

Williams, who hails from Athens, Ohio, completed the 5K course in 19:15. She was the only Rio runner in the competition.

Williams, who was fourth in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship meet, was second among the runners representing KIAC schools in the event. KIAC champion Katie Guarnaccia of Point Park had the league’s top showing, placing 42nd in the 321-runner field with a time of 18:28.

Biola’s Kellian Hunt took the individual title with a time of 17:16.

Northwest Christian captured the team championship with 98 points, while British Columbia was second with 118 points. Biola (170), Aquinas (184) and Carroll (223) comprised the remainder of the top five.

KIAC champion Point Park finished 31st in the 35-team field.
