MERCERVILLE, Ohio — It’s always best to head into the postseason with momentum, and the Lady Rebels have plenty of it.
In Thursday night’s regular season finale, the South Gallia volleyball team earned its season-best fifth straight victory by defeating Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division guest Miller in straight games.
The Lady Rebels (12-10, 7-9 TVC Hocking) posted a 25-17 victory in the opening game, and followed it up with a dominant 25-11 triumph in the second. South Gallia capped off the evening with a 25-13 third game victory, sealing their third consecutive 3-0 victory.
Kirstin Burnette, Mariah Hineman and Courtney Haner led the SGHS service attack with eight points each, including one ace apiece by Burnette and Hineman. Jayla Wolford posted seven points and two aces, Caitlyn Vanscoy added six points and two aces, while Erin Evans had four points and four aces in the win.
At the net South Gallia was led by Wolford with 11 kills and two blocks, followed by Vanscoy with six kills. Haner posted five kills, Hineman added three, while Evans finished with two. Taylor Burnette marked a team-best eight assists for the hosts, followed by Evans with seven. Kirstin Burnette led the SGHS defense with three digs, followed by Wolford with two.
The Lady Rebels — who defeated Miller 3-1 in Perry County on September 24 — return to action in the sectional semifinal on Monday, when they host Symmes Valley.
