COAL GROVE, Ohio — History repeated.

The Gallia Academy volleyball team made school history in 2015, winning the first 18 matches of the season. On Tuesday evening in Lawrence County, the Blue Angels equaled last year’s feat, picking up a 3-games-to-zero victory over Ohio Valley Conference host Coal Grove.

Gallia Academy (18-0, 11-0 OVC) trailed 5-1 in the opening game, but once the Blue Angels took the lead at 8-7, they never trailed again. The Blue Angels won the first game by a 25-14 final, moving ahead 1-0 in the match.

After a 2-0 deficit in the second game, the Blue Angels scored 11 of the next 12 points. GAHS won the second game by a 25-11 final and moved the tally to 2-0.

Gallia Academy led wire-to-wire in the final game, taking the 25-11 victory to cap off the 3-0 sweep.

GAHS senior Carly Shriver led the victors with 13 service points, including five aces. Jenna Wood finished with 10 points and four aces, Brooke Pasquale added nine points and three aces, while Alex Barnes, Peri Martin and Ashton Webb each had six points, with five aces, three aces and one ace respectively. Ryleigh Caldwell rounded out the Blue Angel service attack, with one point.

Webb led the Blue and White at the net with 12 kills and one block, followed by Barnes with five kills and Martin with three kills. Shriver and Caldwell both had two kills and one block in the win, while Aubrey Unroe and Maddie Wright each added one kill.

Gallia Academy’s defense was led by Pasquale and Caldwell, with 13 and 10 digs respectively. Shriver also paced the Blue Angels in assists, with 26.

Dating back to last season, GAHS has now won 20 consecutive regular season matches and 12 consecutive OVC matches. GAHS hasn’t dropped a single game in OVC play during that run.

After a non-conference meeting with Jackson on Wednesday, the Blue Angels will resume OVC play on Thursday, when Portsmouth visits Gallia County. A Blue Angel victory over PHS will clinch at least a share of the league title.
