RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The 24th annual University of Rio Grande / Rio Grande Community College Juried Student Art Show opened Tuesday at the Esther Allen Greer Museum.

The exhibition runs through May 11 with 48 pieces from 20 student artists on display.

“This is always one of our better attended openings,” Art Professor and Greer Museum Director James Allen said. “It runs the full gamut of media and exploration of what art is.”

The exhibition features a wide spectrum of talents and perspective, as Allen said Rio faculty stress to students throughout the year to challenge the definition of art.

The annual exhibition serves as a significant accomplishment for those selected through the juried process. Jurors are comprised of Rio faculty along with one external invite: Shawnee State University Professor of Photography Allyson Klutenkamper.

“The work was fantastic. It was really pleasant to see such a wide variety of work in different mediums, as well as the extraordinary talents that Rio students display in the Arts,” Klutenkamper said. “It’s impressive for the fact that they are students; it was all very professional.”
