GALLIPOLIS — The Gallia County Hike and Bike Trail, a former CSX railway right-of-way, continues to gain foot and bike traffic as the weather in the Ohio Valley warms up. According to the O.O. McIntyre Park District website, as funding becomes available, the trail will eventually stretch 28 miles from southern Vinton County through Gallia County to Gallipolis, and extending to Kanauga. The completed sections feature gentle grades through rolling farmland, short stretches through small towns and over steel bridges. The most utilized section is the 3.3-mile section, pictured, from Mill Creek Road to McCormick Road. The trail can be used for non-motorized walking and cycling and is a favorite path for Gallia County dog owners and nature lovers, alike.
