TIFFIN — The season came to an end for the University of Rio Grande men’s and women’s cross country teams on Saturday at the American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region IX Meet. The Redmen finished 13th (out of 15 teams) with 337 points.
Sophomore Corey Culbertson was the top Rio Grande runner to finish. Culbertson crossed the line 55th overall with a time of 27:55.22. Sophomore Paul Webb finished 58th, covering the 5-mile course in 28:00.98.
Other Redmen results: Troy Howdyshell, 94th (30:16.27); Kyle Hively, 99th (30:40.32) and Jordan Cunningham, 112th (32:24.03). There were 132 runners in the men’s meet with Daniel Roberts of Cedarville taking the individual championship with a time of 24:39.50.
NAIA No. 5 Malone won the AMC Championship scoring a total of 29 points. NAIA No. 11 Cedarville was runner-up with 39 points while Shawnee State (97) finished 3rd followed by Walsh (142) and Roberts Wesleyan (142), who tied for 4th. Ohio Dominican (456) and Wilberforce (478) finished behind the Redmen.
The Rio women’s team had four runners compete with freshman Stacey Arnett finishing as the top runner for Rio Grande. Arnett was 72nd overall and covered the 3.1-mile course in 21:33.98. Freshman Kayla Fulkerson ran 77th overall with a time of 21:58.07. Other Redwomen results: Brittany Dixon, 115th (25:40.51) and Ashley Leslie, 118th (26:11.05).
There were 131 competitors in the women’s race. Samantha Maat of Cedarville was the individual champion, finishing with a time of 18:05.36.
NAIA No. 5 Cedarville was the team champion for the women. The Lady Jackets scored 22 points. NAIA No. 6 Malone was second with 39 points. Geneva was third with 100 points followed by Roberts Wesleyan (110) and Shawnee State (118).
