Gallia Academy freshmen football team beats Point Pleasant

GALLIPOLIS — The Gallia Academy High School freshmen football team was victorious Saturday over visiting Point Pleasant football by a score of 40-14.

Point Pleasant led 8-6 at halftime, but a big second half carried the Blue Devils to victory. A Cody Lloyd fumble recovery set up a Corey Straight two-yard touchdown run that put the Blue Devils up 6-0 early.

In the second half, Ethan Moore returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to put Gallia on top to stay, 12-8.

Moore later scored on a three-yard touchdown run and Austin Wilson added the two-point conversion.

Wilson had a 50-yard punt return later in the half to set up his one yard scoring run. Ben Saunders had the two-point conversion.

Gallia Academy’s Cody Robinson, playing for the first time at running back, rolled up 135 yards and two touchdowns on only three carries as the Blue Devils pulled away for the comfortable victory.

Gallia Academy 7th grade volleyball drops first game, wins two others

GALLIPOLIS — Gallia Academy’s seventh grade volleyball team hit the mid-season mark with a 6-0 record, before dropping its first contest of the season to Athens.

The Blue Angels reached 6-0 by defeating Jackson 18-25, 25-21, 25-9. Katherine Simpson scored 20 points, Halley Barnes 11, Riley Nibert 10, Maggie Bostic nine, Megan Cochran eight, Abby Wiseman five and Madison Daniels two.

Athens defeated Gallia 25-23, 25-9. Daniels had nine points, Riley Nibert and Bostic five, Morgan Foster three, Cochran and Simpson two, and Barnes and Abby Wiseman one.

Also, the Blue Angels defeated Meigs 25-23, 25-9. Josie Vanco had 10 points for Gallia Academy followed by Daniels and Madelynn Dennison with seven each. Simpson had six, Cochran five, Bostic four, Charlotte Lively and Wiseman three, Kace Grate two, Nibert and Barnes one.
