GALLIPOLIS — It’s been a long time coming, but employees of several city offices will soon find themselves in a brand new, state-of-the-art work environment.

During a special meeting of the Gallipolis City Commission held Tuesday, Gallipolis City Manager Randy Finney reported that city offices, including the Gallipolis Police, Gallipolis Municipal Court and the Gallipolis City Solicitor’s Office, would be moving into their new digs at the Gallipolis Justice Center this week and would likely be settled in by Friday.

“Hopefully by Friday, we’ll be in business there,” said Finney.

In other business, the city commission authorized a lease/purchase agreement for a used Tymco street sweeper and two Chevrolet pick-up trucks with utility beds at a cost of $150,000. Finney said that the city’s previously owned equipment could be put up for sale following the delivery of the newly purchased vehicles.

City commissioners also approved a salt contract with Morton Salt for winter highway clearing. This year’s cost of $52.63 per ton is a significant decrease over last year’s cost of $67.71 per ton. Finney also said that calcium would be purchased at $25.80 per 100-pound bag.

The commission also authorized the city manager to submit at application to participate in the Ohio Public Works Commission State Capital Improvement Program and to execute contracts as required for the Water Pollution Control Facility.

Finney explained that the program would help to fund needed upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant.

The commission went into executive session briefly to discuss pending legal matters before adjourning.
