SOUTH POINT, Ohio — No fan of foreign flavors.

Exchange student Matt Krivan scored five goals while helping host South Point claim a 6-1 victory over the Gallia Academy boys soccer team Tuesday night during a non-conference matchup in Lawrence County.

The visiting Blue Devils (1-2-0) trailed 2-0 at the intermission and were down by six goals late in the contest before junior Zach Johnson broke through in the 73rd minute with Gallia Academy’s only goal.

Krivan gave the Pointers a 2-0 lead at the break after scoring consecutive goals within a minute’s span. Krivan netted a pass from Jake Helton in the 13th minute for a 1-0 edge, then scored an unassisted goal in the 14th minute for the early 2-0 cushion.

Krivan landed his hat trick in the 41st minute after netting a pass from Trey Kearns for a 3-0 lead, then Kearns got in on the act in the 48th minute after scoring an unassisted goal for a 4-0 advantage.

Krivan added the final two SPHS goals in the 55th and 66th minutes, both off of assists from Kearns, for a comfortable 6-0 lead with less than 14 minutes left in regulation.

South Point claimed an 18-7 edge in shots on goal, with Brady Rickard coming up with six saves in net for the hosts. GAHS keeper Caden Wilt stopped 12 shots for the guests.
