KANAUGA — Authorities have reported that a “person of interest” is in custody following a shooting that left two people injured late on Thursday evening.
Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning reports that two victims were shot in the alley way next to P.J.’s Pool Hall, located on Ohio 7 North in Kanauga, at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Thursday evening.
Both victims have been transported to Holzer Medical Center, and were reportedly talking while in en route to the hospital.
Browning further stated that initial reports indicate the one victim was shot in the back, while the second was shot in the leg, but that information has yet to be confirmed.
As of 11:30 p.m., a deputy was on scene at Holzer Medical Center interviewing the victims, while a “person of interest” has been taken into custody.
The names of the victims, as well as the identity of the possible suspect have not been released.
P.J.’s Pool Hall was the scene of a major drug bust in December, where deputies and members of the Gallia-Meigs Task Force served search warrants at the pool hall and at a neighboring residence on Ohio 7 North.
Two individuals were taken into custody as a result of this search, and are facing drug-related charges.
Browning reported that, although the cause of the shooting is undetermined at this time, the possibility exists that the incident is drug-related.
The Gallia-Meigs Task Force is also reportedly assisting with the investigation in this case, and Browning reported that Gallia County Prosecutor Jeff Adkins has been contacted and deputies are attempting to obtain search warrants for the vehicles surrounding the scene, as well as the nearby pool hall.
Agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation were also on scene at approximately 11:30 p.m. to aid in the investigation.
Further information on this case will be released as it is made available.
