GALLIPOLIS — Portions of the Gallia County Hike and Bike Trail will be closed off throughout August for bridge deck repairs, according to O.O. McIntyre Park District officials.
“The bridges are being repaired because of old age and weather. The decks are bad on some of them,” JoAnn Nibert, administrative assistant of O.O. McIntyre Park District, said.
Officials are not certain when all of the bridge deck repairs on certain portions of the trail will be complete, but Nibert said they plan to start with the bridge decks behind Woodland Center first.
“They’re doing them this month. I’m not sure exactly when they’re all going to be done,” she said.
In the meantime, park district officials ask that bikers and pedestrians stay off the closed portions of the trail for their own personal safety.
“We just don’t want anybody to get hurt while we’re repairing the bridge decks,” Nibert said.
The Gallia County Hike and Bike Trail was made possible by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Clean Ohio Trail Fund and numerous other local businesses and donors.
