GALLIPOLIS — Trace Neal will lead the 2014 Gallipolis Independence Day Parade on July 4, during the Gallipolis River Recreation Festival.

Trace will serve in memory of his mother, Lorie Neal, who served as executive director of the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce and organizer of the Gallipolis River Recreation Festival for 13 years.

Each year, an outstanding community member is honored by the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce with the Bud and Donna McGhee Award and invited to serve as parade marshal of the Independence Day Parade. In January, Lorie Neal, who passed away unexpectedly in September, was recognized for her unwavering dedication to the chamber and the community with the award.

“There are no words to describe the void left by Lorie’s passing in the lives of those who knew and worked closely with her. She gave unsparingly to the chamber and to the community and put her all into making the River Recreation Festival a success each year,” said Chamber Executive Director Michelle Miller. “But above all, Lorie was a mother. Everything she did, she did for Trace. It is fitting he should lead the parade for this year’s festival, which is dedicated to Lorie’s memory.”

The Independence Day Parade is scheduled to reach downtown Gallipolis at 7 p.m. Friday.
