POINT PLEASANT — One of Point Pleasant’s historic landmarks is about to become reanimated during the First Mothman Ball.

At 10 p.m. this Saturday the movie screen at the Historic State Theater, much like Dr. Frankenstein’s monster, will come back to life for the first time in a very long time when West Coast DJ Mike Stinespring (DJ KOS) brings a special custom mix of horror movies and music to the Mothman Festival. Admission is free and the show is expected to last around an hour and a half.

Stinespring has taken scenes from several horror movies for his special late night feature — from the airplane episode of “The Twilight Zone” to the recent “World War Z” and the television show “The Walking Dead” and much more. He edited the clips to coincide with special musical numbers he created and reedited, like Golden Earring’s “Twilight Zone” and Guns N Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle” among others. Stinespring has even created a special edit of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” to the movie “Wrong Turn.” And, yes, scenes from “The Mothman Prophecies” are also part of his special presentation.

Stinespring, a native of Parkersburg who currently lives in Reno, N.V., said he did his best to keep the show fun while editing out some of the violence and gore commonly associated with horror movies, making his set for PG-13 audiences. Stinespring works around the country doing custom DJ sets and is already booked for the Late Night Horror Festival in Los Angeles, Calif. on Oct. 5. Being a native of Parkersburg, he said he has known of the Mothman Festival for years and is excited to bring his show to town, as well as some family and friends from Wood County. Stinespring has also been blasting the event all over social media sites to ensure a good turnout Saturday night for this unique event.

Denny Bellamy with the Mason County Convention and Visitors Bureau said over the years, visitors to the Mothman Festival suggested having more late-night events to attend — hence the Mothman Ball and the appearance by DJ KOS.

Stinespring said those attending the Mothman Ball can sit in the seats and watch the film presentation or there will be plenty of room for others who want to get up and dance to the music being played. As Stinespring put it, this event is designed to allow people to watch a giant remixed horror movie and also designed for people to move to it.

From Reno, Stinespring went though his list of movies featured in his special edit with the Point Pleasant Register this week which, in addition to flicks already listed, will also include - the original “Frankenstein”, “Nightmare on Elm Street”, “The Exorcist”, “King Kong”, “The Lost Boys”, “Jaws”, “Ghost”, “You’re Next”, as well as some science fiction movies like “Star Wars”, “Lawnmower Man”, “Planet of the Apes” and much more. The movie remix will begin with special documentary clips dealing with Mothman.

Stinespring is excited to incorporate both a visual and auditory experience for his audience, saying they will be able to experience him “scratching” dialogue from the movies live as it happens on screen.

Stinespring/DJ KOS and his music can be found on iTunes and on Facebook. A special preview for his show on Saturday can be found on YouTube and on the Mothman Festival’s Facebook page.
