POINT PLEASANT — Many remember the days of a busy Main Street on Saturdays in downtown Point Pleasant.
Now, local merchants are trying to recreate that atmosphere with a modern twist.
Main Street Market Days is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on Main Street with existing businesses offering shopping specials, while a host of new vendors will be set up on the sidewalks.
Steve Burnette, of Main Street Consignment Boutique and Fringe Salon, said these vendors filled out an application to be approved for the event and will offer new items, such as crafts or name-brand products such as Scentsy and more. He said a vendor will even be on hand with free range meat.
The idea for Market Days was a “collaborative effort” by existing Main Street merchants, Burnette said. The idea is also meant to get even more shopping options to attract customers back to Main Street and it’s hoped Market Days will continue to be offered over the summer months, possibly every other weekend, Burnette said.
At its most recent meeting, Point Pleasant City Council voted to waive its one-time fee of $5.50 for vendors to allow those who wished to participate in Market Days, to do so free of charge this Saturday.
“We hope people will discover what’s on Main Street,” Burnette said. “There’s more here than what people think.”
