COLUMBUS — The State Controlling Board has approved the release of Straight A funding for an educational service center in Gallia County.

According to documents from the Office of Budget and Management, Straight A funding was approved for the Gallia-Vinton Educational Service Center in the amount of $565,425. The project includes creating a centralized, cost-effective shared services transportation center in Gallia County to help better manage transportation services for students and parents.

“I am pleased to see our schools creating innovative solutions to tackle the unique challenges that schools in southeastern Ohio face,” said state Rep. Ryan Smith, R-Bidwell. “These funds will create efficiencies that will save our schools and local governments money for years to come.”

The Straight A grants strive to fund various school projects that use innovative ideas to improve student achievement in Ohio schools. The fund was created in 2013 and last year’s state operating budget continued funding for the grants with a $30 million appropriation.

Twenty grants, representing 86 schools, were recommended this year and finalized after the Ohio Controlling Board’s approval.
