GALLIPOLIS – Gallia County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man they say robbed a Raccoon Township store at gunpoint last Friday.

Steven S. Davis, 41, is being charged in Gallipolis Municipal Court with felony aggravated robbery after he allegedly robbed the Hillside Store, 82 Deckard Road, Raccoon Township, at 11:45 a.m. Feb. 5.

According to Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning, Davis allegedly entered the Hillside Store, known for carrying Amish goods, displayed what appeared to be a handgun tucked into his waistband and ordered the clerk to remove cash from the register. The suspect then fled the area in a vehicle with about $40 cash.

Based on information on the vehicle’s description, law enforcement spotted and stopped the suspect on State Route 850 near Rodney. A search of the vehicle yielded what Browning said was an Airsoft replica pistol, similar to the gun described by the store clerk. Upon being interviewed by deputies, Davis allegedly admitted to robbing the store to obtain money for drugs.

Further information will be released as it becomes available.
