FAC’s ‘Emma’ hits stage today, Sunday

GALLIPOLIS — “Emma,” a pop musical based on the book by Jane Austin, will be presented by the French Art Colony’s Riverby Theatre Guild.

The modern version of the story, set in a high school, features an array of hit, top 40 songs from the 1960s through today.

The musical, cast with local teen and adult actors, will perform at 8 p.m. Friday at the University of Rio Grande, Fine and Performing Arts Center Auditorium in Rio Grande, and 3 p.m . Sunday. There will be no performance on Saturday.

The production will also perform at 2 p.m . Oct. 11 at the Jackson Middle School Auditorium in Jackson. Tickets for all performances are $10 and will be available at the door 30 minutes prior to show time.

The production is directed by Minda Miller Hager, with assistance by Lucia Colley Jones, and choreography by Elaine Wheeler.

The musical, by Eric Price, has grown quite popular with community theatre and high school theatre groups throughout the U.S., according to Joseph Wright of the French Art Colony.
