HEMLOCK — The Eastern girls basketball team captured its ninth consecutive victory of the season — and kept its league title hopes alive in the process — during a convincing 68-22 victory over host Miller on Monday night in a Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division matchup in Perry County.

The visiting Lady Eagles (18-1, 8-1 TVC Hocking) — ranked seventh in the Division IV AP poll — had little trouble with the Lady Falcons (1-8 TVC Hocking), leading wire-to-wire in the 46-point triumph.

EHS stormed out to a 13-3 advantage after eight minutes of play, then went on a 21-6 second period surge to take a comfortable 34-9 cushion into the intermission.

The Green and White kept that rhythm going into the second half as the guests went on a 21-6 charge in the third for a commanding 55-15 edge headed into the finale. EHS outscored the hosts 13-7 down the stretch to wrap up the season sweep of MHS.

Eastern — which is currently one game behind Waterford (9-0 TVC Hocking) — can only clinch a share of the league title headed into Thursday night’s Senior Night showdown with the Lady Wildcats.

Waterford won its 45th straight league contest and clinched a share of its sixth-straight TVC Hocking title with an impressive 74-45 victory over Trimble on Monday night.

The Lady Eagles had 10 different players score in the victory, with Beverly Maxson leading the way with a game-high 17 points. Kasey Turley was next with 15 points, while Audrionna Pullins posted a double-double effort of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Emeri Connery added seven markers, followed by Hayley Gillian and Brooke Johnson with four apiece. Allie Rawson contributed three markers, while Brenna Holter, Ashley Putnam and Kelsey Myers all rounded out the scoring with two points each.

Megan Voglesong paced Miller with seven points, followed by Haley Crawford and Abby Toth with six markers each. Darayn Wood and Lauren Thompson tounded out the scoring with two points apiece.

Eastern will make its home finale on Thursday night when it takes on Waterford in a TVC Hocking matchup at 6 p.m. Waterford — ranked 10th in the D-4 AP poll — won the first contest by a 55-50 margin.
