JACKSON — The high school postseason is just around the corner, but the roads for the southeast district tournament were paved Sunday afternoon at Jackson High School during the 2010 OHSAA Southeast District Girls Basketball Tournament selection meeting in the Apple City.

Six area schools — Gallia Academy, South Gallia, River Valley, Meigs, Eastern and Southern — now know who and where their opening games will be against. Half of those half-dozen programs — RVHS, SGHS and EHS — will start the 2010 postseason in a sectional final facing a win-and-in chance at advancing to districts.

Eastern (17-1) — which earned the highest seed of any of the Ohio Valley Publishing programs — will be a No. 2 seed in the Division IV bracket and will also be looking for its fifth consecutive sectional championship when it takes on the winner of the Symmes Valley-Southern game on Saturday, Feb. 20, at Athens High School at 2:45 p.m.

South Gallia (10-7) — also a D-4 program — earned the No. 5 seed and will play fourth-seeded South Webster (13-5) at Athens High School on Thursday, Feb. 18, in a sectional final at 6:15 p.m. The Lady Rebels will be aiming for their fourth consecutive sectional championship.

Southern (3-15) — the remaining D-4 program from the area — earned the 10-seed and will play in a sectional semifinal against No. 7 Symmes Valley (6-10) at AHS on Monday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. The winner will play Reedsville Eastern in the sectional final.

In Division III, River Valley (7-11) earned the sixth-seed and will open tournament play in a sectional final at Wellston High School on Saturday, Feb. 20, against No. 3 Lucasville Valley (12-4) at 1 p.m.

The road will be a little harder for Division II programs Gallia Academy (9-8) and Meigs (8-9), as both teams will have to play at least twice to get out of the sectional bracket.

The Blue Angels earned the sixth-seed and will take on No. 3 Sheridan (15-4) in a sectional semifinal at Alexander High School on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 6:15 p.m. The winner will take on either South Point, Athens or Vinton County in the sectional final at AHS on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 2:45 p.m.

The Lady Marauders earned the ninth-seed and will take on No. 8 Warren (8-11) in a sectional quarterfinal at Alexander High School on Monday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. The winner will face top-seeded Marietta (14-3) in a sectional semifinal on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 8 p.m. The sectional final will be played at AHS on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m.
