Lena “Gail” Sprague, 88, Vinton, Ohio (Porter Community), passed away on Monday, February 8, 2010, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis. She graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1939. During WW II, she worked for the Department of the Navy, Point Pleasant, W.Va., as secretary to the officer in charge of the Depot for 17 years. She continued her career as secretary to the superintendent of the Gallipolis Developmental Center for 22 years, retiring in 1985. She loved her church and was a member of the Bidwell United Methodist Church. While at home she enjoyed bird watching and her lap friend, Rams.

Gail was born October 24, 1921, in Gallipolis, daughter of the late Mary Rebecca Chick Harrison and Clyde Harrison.

She was preceded in death by her husband George L. “Buster” Sprague in 1995 and by a sister, Norma Berry, in 1998.

She is survived by a close nephew Charles (Amy) Powell, Gallipolis, Ohio, and nephews, John (Betsy) Carter, Leonardtown, Md., and James Carter, Racine, Ohio, and other nephews. Also surviving are several nieces, including special niece, Karen Sprague, Bidwell, Ohio, and a special cousin, Helen Russell, Dayton, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 11, 2010, at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home-Wetherholt Chapel, 420 First Ave. in Gallipolis with Rev. Larry Cheesebrew officiating. Burial will follow at the Ohio Valley Memory Garden in Gallipolis.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at the funeral home.
