GALLIPOLIS — This year’s 49th annual River Recreation Festival will feature the usual food, fun and fireworks.
The Gallia County Chamber of Commerce and the 2014 River Rec Festival Committee are sponsoring the event this year, which will take place July 3-5 in Gallipolis City Park.
The festival kicks off at 5 p.m. Thursday.The Queens Parade will take place at 6:30 p.m., with an opening ceremony to follow at 7 p.m. on the Main Stage. The Junior Miss Pageant starts at 7:15 p.m., followed by the Queen’s Pageant, which will take place at 8 p.m. The River Valley High School Show Choir will preform immediately afterward.
Inflatables will be in operation each day of the festival from 5 p.m. to dusk on Thursday, and 10 a.m. to dusk on Friday and Saturday. They include Bounce houses, obstacle courses, joust areas, a slide, human hamster balls, a Velcro wall, an American Ninja obstacle course, a rock wall and an Extreme Air Power Jump for older kids. AEP Generation Resources is sponsoring the inflatable amusements.
Tickets for the inflatables are $3 for two turns. Wristbands for all-day access to the inflatables are $8 each on Thursday, and $12 each on Friday and Saturday. The rock wall is not included in the all-day access wristband and is $3 per turn. The Extreme Air Power Jump is not included in the all-day access wristband as well, and is $5 per turn.
Friday will feature the Lil’ Miss & Mr. Firecracker Contest, an all-day display of the FAC Adult Division Art, performances by the Christian rock band NothingInBetween, a wiener dog race and the Rotary Mile. The Independence Day parade will take place at 7 p.m.
Following the parade, Columbus’ premier 1980s hair band “No Regrets” will open for national country music recording artist Matt Stillwell, who will take the main stage at 9:30 p.m. for the free “A Lil’ Rock, a Lil’ Country” concert.
Kids Day takes place Saturday and will feature the Baby Tot Sparkler Contest, Bass Busters Casting Tournament, FAC Youth Art in the Park and numerous free activities such as the Talent Show, The Hoop Project’s Skill Challenge, balloon toss, a water melon eating contest and many more events.
Gospel Night will take place from 4-10 p.m., with the fireworks display immediately afterward.
