Board approves new teachers, substitutes

GALLIPOLIS — Full-time teacher contracts, as well as substitutes, and supplemental contracts were all under discussion at the recent meeting of the Gallipolis City School board.

The board has elected Robert Cornwell as president, with John O’Brien as vice president. Board members present at the board meeting, in addition to Cornwell and O’Brien, were as follows: Timothy Kyger; Lynn Angell; Amee Rees; Roger D. Mace; Allen Marple

Under regular business, the board: authorized the treasurer to sign all vouchers and accounts payable; requested tax advances from the county auditor and invest interim funds when available; authorized the superintendent to act as agent for all federal and state programs; authorized the superintendent to employ legal and consultant services during the year and until the organizational meeting of 2015.

The board also made the following appointments for the next year: Kyger, Rees​, academics; Kyger, alumni; Cornwell and Rees, athletics; Angell and Rees, faculty and construction; Kyger, legislative liaison; Angell and O’Brien, naming rights; O’Brien, policy; Rees, safety; Cornwell, stadium projects; Kyger and Rees, technology; Angell and Cornwell, transportation; Cornwell, school building liaison; Angell, GAMS; Kyger, Green Elementary; Rees, Rio Grande Elementary; O’Brien, Washington Elementary​.

The board approved the following supplemental contracts for 3eth 2013-2014 school year: Cheryl Greenlee, seventh & eighth grade head track coach; Nate Hall , assistant varsity track coach; Seth Haner, seventh and eighth grade assistant track coach; Corey Luce, assistant varsity baseball coach; Craig Sanders, junior varsity track coach; Allena Sprague, evening school;

The board also approved the following substitutes for the 2013- 2014 school year: Meghan Matthews, teacher; Brittany Mooney, aide, cook, and secretary; Benjamin Schlater, teacher.

The board approved the agreement with the Gallipolis Education Association for the period September 1, 2013 - August 31, 2015

The board approved 2014 membership in the Ohio School Boards Association at a cost of $5,478.00

The board appointed Bob Cornwell as a representative to the Gallia-Jackson-Vinton Joint Vocational School District Board of Education for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2014. The board also approved the following physicians to conduct bus driver annual physical examinations: Ashok Dayal, MD; John Ellison, DO; Donald Fisco, DO; Stephen Popper, DO; Kelly Roush, DC; Tess Simon, MD; Mark Walker, MD.

The board accepted an anonymous donation in the amount of $500.00 to be used for student needs, and the purchase of three 2014-2015 77-passenger school buses through the Metropolitan Education Council.

The board employed Barbara Burnett as a teacher for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year, effective January 21, 2014, for no more than 29 hours per week, with her hourly rated to be determined on the salary schedule at MA and 5 years experience. The board also approved the contract agreement with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office, an independent contractor, for the provision of the services of an eight-hour Student Resource Officer for 2013-2014 school year.

The board also approved the renewal of the superintendent’s contract for a four-year term commencing on August 1, 2015 and ending on July 31, 2019.

Regular board meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of each month, beginning at 7 p.m. in the GAMS Library.
