GALLIA COUNTY — After months of reviewing resumes and interviewing candidates, the search for a new superintendent is over for Gallia County Local Schools. Board member Scott Williamson introduced Jude Meyers at Monday night’s board meeting, inviting Meyers to “come on up” and sit with the board.

The board voted at the meeting to employ Meyers on a three-year contract.

Most of Meyers’ teaching and administrative experience comes from northern Ohio schools; he taught social studies and served as head basketball coach for 10 years at Woodmore High School in Woodville, before which he taught at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Fremont. After Woodmore, Meyers spent five years as assistant principal and athletic director at Genoa High School, after which he was principal of Allen Elementary School. Following his tenure at Allen, he served as principal of Fostoria High School before being named at superintendent of Old Fort Local Schools.

Meyers currently holds a superintendent license, an assistant superintendent license, a principal license, and a teaching license in comprehensive social studies. He earned a master’s degree in educational administration and supervision from Bowling Green State University, and he holds an undergraduate degree from Capital University.

In other business, the board has named Wendy Halley as temporary assistant superintendent. Halley served as interim superintendent for GCLS during the search. She is contracted through the Educational Service Center. The board also approved a membership in the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce for the 2014 calendar year at a fee of $200. The board voted to approve maternity leave for employee Jessie Farley, which will begin after sick and personal leave time is exhausted.

The board also voted to approve the resignation of Scot West, varsity volleyball coach at South Gallia, and to employ the following individuals on supplemental contracts for the 2013-2014 school year: Larry Lee, junior varsity baseball coach at River Valley High School; Tessa Queen, SADD advisor at River Valley High School; Dian Fleming, academic festival coordinator at South Gallia High School.

The board also voted to approve employment of the following individuals as volunteers for the 2013-2014 school year: Health Engle, volunteer baseball coach at River Valley High School; Ethan Quinn, volunteer boys basketball coach at River Valley High School. The board also approved the employment of the following individuals as substitute teachers: Mary Deel and Debbie Rhodes.

In addition to Meyers, Halley, and Williamson, those present at Tuesday’s board meeting were Melvin Carter, Terry Halley, Stephanie Mulford, and Billy Swain.
