GALLIA COUNTY — Voters will determine the new make-up of the Gallipolis City Commission, as well as the status of site-specific alcohol sales and a number of township trustee seats in Tuesday’s general election.

There are three Gallipolis City Commission seats up for grabs and five candidates including current City Commissioners Jay Cremeens and Matthew Johnson and Commission hopefuls, Paul Covey, Albert ‘Tony’ Gallagher and Thomas Meadows.

There are no other contested races on the municipality level.

The local liquor options pertain to two Gallia County precincts: Gallipolis Precinct 5 and Bidwell. Voters in Gallipolis Precinct 5 will decide the the status of beer sales at Wal-Mart, Go Mart and Smokin’ Robs on Eastern Ave. in Gallipolis.

The ballot in each case reads:

1. “Shall the sale of beer be permitted by Go Mart Inc. dba Go Mart 39, a holder of a C-2X liquor permit who is engaged in the business of operating a neighborhood convenience store at 1875 Eastern Ave. Gallipolis, Ohio 45631 in this precinct?”

2. “Shall the sale of beer be permitted by Wal-Mart Stores East LP, dba Wal-Mart Supercenter 2605, a holder of a C-2X liquor permit who is engaged in the business of operating a neighborhood store at 2145 Eastern Ave. Gallipolis, Ohio 45631 in this precinct?”

3. “Shall the sale of beer be permitted by Manv International dba Smokin Robs, a holder of a C-1 liquor permit who is engaged in the business of operating a neighborhood store at 1525 Eastern Ave. Gallipolis, Ohio 45631 in this precinct, City 5?”

A “yes” vote indicates approval of alcohol sales.

Voters in Bidwell will decide the the status of alcohol sales at the Korner Store and the Wounded Goose Restaurant.

The ballot in each case reads:

1. “Shall the sale of beer and wine be permitted by The Korner Convenience Store Enterprises, LLC, an applicant for a C-1 and C-2 liquor permits who is engaged in the business of operating a convenience store at 9457 State Route 160, Bidwell, Ohio 45614, Springfield Twp in this precinct?

2. “Shall the sale of beer, wine, and mixed beverages be permitted by Brabham Family Food, Inc. dba The Wounded Goose, an applicant for a D-1-2 liquor permit who is engaged in the business of a family restaurant at 14728 State Route 554, Springfield Twp., Bidwell, in this precinct?”

Again, a “yes” vote indicates the voter’s approval of alcohol sales as outlined in the ballot language. A majority affirmative vote is necessary for passage.
